Seeds coated with Rhizobium bacteria – Yellow Jacket Nitrogenerator®
-
High protein content and digestibility
-
Consistent yields throughout the season
-
High winter hardiness
-
Excellent persistence and disease resistance
Alfa Kombi is a mixture of alfalfa varieties coated with Yellow Jacket Nitrogenerator® technology, guaranteeing a high number of active Rhizobium bacteria. For dairy producers, it is important that alfalfa delivers high yields with excellent forage value. For this purpose, we use varieties that are ideally suited to dairy farms. In addition to earliness, our Alfa Kombi Yellow Jacket alfalfa mixture is distinguished by good yield performance, rapid regrowth and high nutritional value. It has a fine stem and a high leaf-to-stem ratio. It is characterised by good winter hardiness and high disease resistance.
Alfalfa coated with Yellow Jacket Nitrogenerator® technology.
Another revolutionary product developed after many years of research is Yellow Jacket Nitrogenerator® - a technology for coating alfalfa seed with Rhizobium bacteria. Rhizobium bacteria live in symbiosis with legume plants and fix atmospheric nitrogen, making it available in the soil and thereby reducing nitrogen fertiliser costs. Traditional seed treatment methods do not deliver the expected results because the bacteria quickly die during seed storage and transport.
For this reason, Barenbrug developed a special polymer matrix containing live Rhizobium colonies, bacterial nutrients, trace elements and calcium for germinating alfalfa. By increasing the seed weight, the coating improves soil contact, while its hygroscopic properties (moisture absorption) promote faster germination and reduce sensitivity to temporary moisture shortages in the upper soil layer.
Thanks to the addition of calcium and trace elements, seedlings emerging from coated seeds develop a stronger and deeper taproot during the initial growth stage, enabling access to nutrients located in deeper soil layers.
