Very winter hardy
Chinook creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera) stands out by offering a balanced package of disease resistance, drought tolerance, consistent turf quality and a strong winter performance. Its superior dollar spot and brown patch tolerance makes Chinook a future-ready alternative. Chinook is a modern creeping bentgrass cultivar intensively evaluated in both NTEP and the Rutgers Turfgrass Trials (2017-2021).
Chinook has been bred for versatility. It's aggressive, produces a medium dense cover, and will repair from aerification quickly. The focus in the breeding was for greens, tees and fairways. It can be blended with other modern varieties of creeping bent. It has a medium dark green colour with a finer leaf texture and good density.
Developed as a multi-use variety, Chinook has an outstanding heat tolerance and summer performance. It's well adapted to the transition zone and southern Europe. It is also very winter hardy and can be used successfully in coldern northern areas of Europe.
Chinook is a modern variety bred for outstanding dollar spot resistance and summer stress tolerance. At Rutgers University (New Jersey) Chinook is unsurpassed in dollar spot resistance. It will tolerate the lowest cutting heights even in the hottest days of summer. Overall disease resistance is excellent as would be expected from a new elite variety from Rutgers.
